Taijon Graham no longer thinks about himself as a basketball player first as he enters his fifth season with the Nipissing Lakers men’s team. Graham co-founded the Nipissing University Black Association of Student Expression, which has developed a mentorship program and ‘Shoot for Change’ anti-racism awareness and fundraising event to provide bursaries for Black, Indigenous People of Colour (BIPOC) students. The third annual Shoot for Change is Jan. 20 against Windsor. It’s a special homecoming because the coach of the Lancers is Chris Cheng, former coach of the Nipissing Lakers. Graham is also host of The Lakers LockerRoom podcast, where he interviews Nipissing student athletes. https://www.youtube.com/@UCYLlkxPAaKfX6NLx5i2avMw
Joining me on the podcast interview recorded Oct. 25 is Tim Lowe, a former Lakers basketball assistant coach and retired ecole secondaire catholique Algonquin teacher and coach. Lowe is also the host of the upcoming North Bay Echo ‘High School Sports’ podcast we are developing.
