For those following the news about The Gathering Place soup kitchen in North Bay, (BayToday, Nugget, CTV) the executive director, Dennis Chippa, posted this comment on social media:
“As we continue to navigate financial challenges, the Gathering Place board has collectively decided to adapt our service model, starting with a reduction in meal services from September 1st. This necessary step enables us to consolidate our resources, minimize disruptions, and ultimately emerge stronger and more resilient. We regret the difficulty this will cause for those who use our services and hope this measure is a temporary one.”

& ‘tough love’ for homeless
This ‘Between 2 Daves’ episode via Small Town Times includes discussion about the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board and the potential location of a proposed ‘Homeless Hub’ (which would likely include a soup kitchen, warming place and low barrier shelter, as well as other social, mental health and addiction supports.)
The discussion also reviews some of the Casselholme (long-term care) and Castle Arms (senior living) political history that may have built the foundation of Coun. Jamie Lowery’s position as a seemingly-ostracized elected official (the guest and subject of an Echo Essentials podcast released the day after this podcast was recorded).

Last week’s Echo Essentials podcast is half banter between co-hosts Scott Clark and Dave Dale before bringing in seemingly-ostracized Coun. Jamie Lowery to discuss the city council’s progress and lack there of half-way into the four-year term.
UPDATED INFO:
One of Dave’s questions was about his attendance at council, a subject the media often focus on when they do reviews at mid-term and before the next election. Coun. Lowery followed up with a reply:
“Thank you for the opportunity to speak on your Podcast – lots of feedback, some from people I don’t even know – (all good I might add). In any event, I gather from the Podcast that my record of attendance at Council and Committee is suspect. I asked the clerk to produce my attendance records for the term and have attached it for you and Scott. It seems I have only missed 9 meetings in about 2 years. I can attribute 4 of them to out of country vacation, 2 for very personal reasons and 3 due to scheduling conflicts. From the table you will note that many meetings are cancelled and rescheduled and meeting the new dates is not always possible given the other volunteer work (coaching hockey and sitting on other boards) I do.”

A piece from Tuesday’s newsletter …
The Nugget reported late in the afternoon that the financially-challenged Gathering Place board of directors is contemplating reductions in meals, days of service and ultimately, closing its doors, during its annual meeting tonight.
Executive director Dennis Chippa was paraphrased as saying, ‘if people think the folks on the streets are scary now, don’t feed them for three days and see what happens.’ Read the story HERE.
Meanwhile, are you at the ‘tipping point’ of tipping for restaurant and fast-food service? This Village Media piece is all about that feeling.
And a missing woman’s grandmother is more than worried. See The Nugget piece HERE. Fortunately, she was found safe, see update HERE.
