McConnel Lake campers may not have to pull up stakes and vamoose for a full season or two, while officials assess the area for environmental factors.

The potential evictions, temporary as it appeared to be, may not materialize, says the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and the Ministry of Environment. Even Premier Doug Ford had something to say about it.

Panther system
is pumping up
love for baseball

Paul McLean drops by the Echo Essential Podcast studio to talk about the resurgence of minor baseball in North Bay. The owner of Source for Sports describes how the newest iteration of the diamond sport offers a Panther ‘travel’ team system with a ‘local’ league foundation.

McLean, with his boy’s 9U team fresh off a provincial championship tournament experience in Sault Ste. Marie on Labour Day weekend, also shares how a mix of paid staff and volunteers are charting a new course for youth sports. And he describes the evolution of the well-founded ‘Hockey for Beginners’ program, which starts this weekend with involvement in the OHL North Bay Battalion’s preseason fan frenzy activities.

During the pre-interview banter, co-hosts Scott Clark and Dave Dale remember their very-limited sports experience as children and their involvement as parents.

In the banter before the interview, Scott and Dave talk about North Bay’s Community Survey, the Bay Block Party and BayToday’s Aug. 9 article by Stu Campaign that looks into the massive revenue Canadore College gains from international students.

30th anniversary of Heritage Railway and Carousel Co. celebrated in North Bay with 2 millionth rider - Small Town Times with Dave Dale

The Heritage Railway and Carousel Company celebrated its 30th anniversary and two-millionth (2,000,000) rider on Aug. 31 as part of the Labour Day Holiday weekend festivities. See the Small Town Times video story HERE.

Among those in attendance were original Railway ‘Charter’ volunteers, carousel carvers, artists, donors, sponsors and the hundreds of operational volunteers making the waterfront attraction a success. Edna Scott, a driving force for the Carousel component, presented a 2,000,000th rider plaque to Emma Courvoisier and her mother, Kayla.

Another highlight was the unveiling of a signage honour for the late Dan Pigeau, the chief mechanic for the HRCC until his passing July 19, with his wife Pat and son Dan part of the ceremony. Pigeau’s death led to a brief suspension of activities and postponement of the 30th anniversary celebration, originally scheduled Aug. 3.
