Do Good. Feel Good. It’s CMHA Mental Health Week May 6-12 and the Kindness Project in North Bay and District features a full slate of events as community partners join forces to amplify the natural cure for what ails us.
Science shows that when we are kind to others, both parties experience real and tangible benefits. Kindness lowers stress, releases happy chemicals in our brains, and helps build stronger communities.

Midwifery can
deliver a cure
for Ontario’s
health care crisis
Ava Vosu joins 2NBWL host Lisa Boivin today to talk about the evolution of the midwifery profession and how it could help ease some of the problems in the health care system in Ontario.
The timing couldn’t better for this in-depth discussion ahead of the International Midwifery Day this coming Sunday, May 5.
Ava was part of ground-breaking expansion of midwifery, which she practiced from 1978 to 2012, assisting 1,300 women through pregnancy and birth and post partum. She was the founding Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA) representative for Canada and founded the Ontario Association of Midwives in 1981.
One of the first 62 midwives to be licensed to practice Midwifery in Ontario, Ava was also a driving force of the Midwifery Integration Committee at North Bay. After listening to her podcast with Lisa, check out her video presentation, To MANA With Love.
Uphar interviews
Mayor Chirico
about city’s future
Today’s Echo Essentials Podcast features Uphar Singh interviewing North Bay Mayor Peter Chirico at his office about his family’s immigrant roots, the importance of the recent Sikh flag-raising and the future of the city’s growth.
Uphar, who is an international student from Punjabi, India, asks the mayor how North Bay is integrating students into the workforce and their impact on our economy. He is a Nipissing University student seeking a marketing degree and is hoping to develop his own podcast.
And Uphar is hoping to hear from potential sponsors and guests willing to share their story about choosing to settle in Canada, their experience relocating in North Bay and other issues offering an international perspective.
Before Uphar’s interview, Essentials podcast co-hosts Dave Dale and Scott Clark discuss the current water levels in the area, treaties and the pros and cons of having a midwife vs hospital birth.
