Kicking off the first Echo Sportscast is coverage of the Nipissing District Athletics opening games in football, basketball and volleyball, including short interviews with coaches from four teams (Mark Robertson, Ryan Desbiens, Kyle Quinlan and Craig Nodwell), plus the captain of Chippewa’s senior boys volleyball team, Carter Thibodeau.
The middle of the Sportscast features a five-minute clip from a longer podcast interview, with the first one being NDA president Lisa Hotte, the athletic director at ecole secondaire catholique Algonquin. Lisa is also the president of the North Bay Minor Girls Softball Association, which recently hosted the U13 provincials in North Bay. You’ll be able to see the full interview under the Echo Sportscast directory on this website and the Echo YouTube channel.
The third segment in the show covers local club and recreational pursuits, with this week’s effort promoting the Gateway Martial Arts championships at the West Ferris arena, the Nipissing Lakers Homecoming plans and a review of umpire calls in the North Bay Men’s Baseball League final.
Each show will end with a ‘Heritage Moment’ involving sports history in the area as well as the outstanding athletes of yesteryear. First up is the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony this spring for local product Steve McLaren, a former professional hockey player and North Bay Centennial star.
