The City of North Bay is looking at buying the building beside The Gathering Place soup kitchen on Cassells Street. Former councillor Dave Mendicino sees a lot of potential in such a move to consolidate various related supports for unhoused citizens. Of course, the Gathering Place board should be involved and supportive of any changes. They are often called upon to pull together emergency shelter and services. Mendicino said a coordinated approach will lead to the same potential at the Northern Pines treatment and transitional housing complex (former OPP property near the Algonquin Leo Troy Armoury and Chippewa Secondary School). He said it’s almost ready to be fully operational for all the units.
Both Daves agreed that Gathering Place director Dennis Chippa should come on the show and share his opinion.
